NIL Disclosures
Last updated: August 2026
Name, Image, and Likeness (“NIL”) rules allow certain student athletes to be compensated for the use of their name, image, and likeness. This page explains Pathway2College’s role and what athletes and families should understand. It applies to information and education we provide through the Services.
General Information, Not Legal, Tax, or Compliance Advice
Everything we share about NIL, on this Site and in our workshops, is general educational information only. It is not legal, tax, financial, or compliance advice, and it does not create any professional or advisory relationship. NIL rules change frequently and vary significantly by state, by governing association, and by school.
High School Athletes and State Rules
NIL activity by high school athletes is governed by the rules of each state’s high school athletic association, and those rules differ widely from state to state. Some associations permit NIL activity under conditions, and others restrict it. In Texas, for example, high school athletics are governed by the University Interscholastic League. Before any NIL activity, a high school athlete and their family should confirm what is allowed under their state association and school district rules.
College Athletes and Association Rules
College athletes are subject to the rules of their athletic association, such as the NCAA, NAIA, or NJCAA, as well as state law and the policies of their school and conference. These rules address what NIL activity is permitted, what must be disclosed, and how deals may be arranged.
Compliance Is the Athlete’s Responsibility
Athletes and families are solely responsible for following all rules that apply to them. Entering into an NIL arrangement that is not permitted can put an athlete’s eligibility at risk. Before agreeing to anything, confirm that the activity is allowed for your situation and that any required disclosures or approvals are completed.
We Are Not Your Agent
Pathway2College helps athletes build a professional presence and understand the recruiting and NIL landscape. We do not act as an agent, and we do not negotiate, arrange, or manage NIL deals on your behalf unless a separate written agreement expressly says otherwise.
No Guarantee
We do not guarantee NIL opportunities, offers, or income. Any figures or examples are for illustration only and are not a promise of any result.
Confirm Before You Sign
We strongly recommend that every athlete confirm the specifics of any NIL opportunity with their school or association compliance office and, where appropriate, a qualified attorney and tax advisor, before signing anything.
